To prepare participants to act as a member or leader of a rescue team in confined spaces. The course teaches how to plan and carry out complex rescue operations, stabilise the casualty inside tanks/shafts, and manage rescue equipment in critical situations.

Course description

The training focuses almost exclusively on rescue practice in difficult conditions:

Rescue tactics: ‘on-the-spot’ risk assessment and selection of the appropriate evacuation method (vertical vs horizontal),
Advanced equipment: handling multi-pulley systems, specialist stretchers (e.g. Sked, basket), mechanical and pneumatic winches,
Airway protection: working with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or airline systems during rescue operations,
Incident management: communication between the rescuer inside and the team outside, management of air supply and operation time.

Duration

The course lasts 6 hours.

Prerequisites

At least 18 years of age,
Completion of Confined Space Entry (CSE) training (basic, entry into confined spaces).
No medical contraindications to working with breathing apparatus, and good physical fitness.
No claustrophobia or fear of heights (often required in vertical rescue).

Outcomes upon completion

The participant is able to independently rig a stable mechanical advantage hauling system over an entry point, for instance, using a rescue tripod. They are fully prepared to safely enter a hazard zone in full rescue gear and to medically and mechanically secure a casualty for transport within extremely confined spaces. Furthermore, they possess the competencies required for effective and seamless cooperation with professional emergency services, such as the fire department or ambulance service.

Certificate validity

The certificate is valid for 24 months (2 years).

Valid ID card or passport,
Workwear: preferably a reinforced, abrasion-resistant coverall.
Work shoes (with good grip).
Technical/work gloves (providing protection and grip).
Towel and a change of clothes (intensive physical exertion in a confined space with limited air circulation).

In cooperation with an external clinic, we help arrange the required occupational health examinations. The scope may include, among others, the Chester Step Test, an exercise stress test, and the option to obtain an OEUK/OGUK certificate.
