Course objective

To enable non-technical personnel (e.g. visitors, inspectors, managers) to access onshore wind turbines safely and under supervision. The course aims to provide the absolute minimum of safety knowledge so that participants do not pose a risk to themselves or others during a brief visit to the turbine.

Course description

The course is a simplified version of the full Onshore BST. It focuses on the basic principles of moving around inside a WTG, the correct use of harnesses and responding to instructions from qualified personnel. The programme covers, in a nutshell, the basics of working at height, first aid, fire safety and manual handling.

Duration

The course lasts 3,5 hours.

Prerequisites

Possession of a valid WINDA ID number,
At least 18 years of age,
Basic physical fitness (enabling, for example, climbing a service ladder).

Outcomes upon completion

The participant is authorised to enter onshore turbines only under the supervision of at least two people holding full GWO BST certificates. After this course, the participant may not carry out maintenance or operational work independently.

Certificate validity

The certificate is valid for 24 months (2 years). To maintain the validity of the authorisation, a refresher course must be completed within the last 2 months prior to the expiry date of the current certificate.

Information regarding the completed training will be recorded in the international GWO WINDA database. The digital record enables authorised employers to instantly verify your qualifications. For the participant, this means easy confirmation of competence worldwide without the need for paper documents.
