To teach participants how to use an AED safely and confidently in the event of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). The aim is to reduce the time taken to deliver the first electric shock, which dramatically increases the victim’s chances of survival.

Course description

The training covers the theory behind the mechanism of ventricular fibrillation and practical exercises using AED trainers and manikins. The programme teaches participants to recognise when to use the device, how to apply the electrodes correctly, how to work with a partner during CPR, and how to ensure the safety of the operator and those around them during the shock.

Duration

The course lasts 3 hours.

Prerequisites

At least 18 years of age,
No specialist requirements (training available to everyone),
Basic physical fitness enabling the performance of chest compressions.

Outcomes upon completion

The participant is able to activate the AED without hesitation, follow the device’s voice instructions, correctly position the electrodes on the chest (including on people with body hair or a pacemaker) and effectively combine defibrillation with chest compressions.

Certificate validity

The certificate is valid for 24 months (2 years).

Comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement (some exercises are performed in a kneeling position next to a manikin).
