Course objective

To familiarise participants with the principles of safely isolating machinery and equipment from hazardous energy sources (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic). The main objective is to teach employees how to achieve a ‘zero-energy state’ in order to eliminate the risk of accidental machine start-up during maintenance or repair work.

Course description

The training combines theory (legal regulations, safety standards, types of energy) with practical workshops. It covers learning how to identify hazards, selecting appropriate locks (padlocks, clamps) and warning labels (tags). The programme often covers the 6 or 7 stages of the LOTO procedure, from preparation to verification of disconnection.

Duration

The course lasts 3 hours.

Prerequisites

There are no requirements, but the course is designed for specific groups: maintenance staff, electricians, mechanics, as well as management and health and safety personnel. Basic knowledge of industrial safety is required, at least 18 years of age.

Outcomes upon completion

The participant is able to independently and safely carry out the machine lockout and tagging procedure. They gain the ability to identify energy sources and correctly apply mechanical and electrical lockouts, as confirmed by passing the final test.

Certificate validity

The certificate is valid for 24 months (2 years).
