During the course, participants learn about ignition sources, the properties of combustible materials, the causes of shipboard fires, and fire detection methods. Through practical exercises, they acquire skills in firefighting and rescue operations on board vessels, including the design, use, and location of firefighting equipment and fixed fire-extinguishing systems. They also learn shipboard firefighting techniques, including those at the command level.
The training program includes practical exercises at a fire training ground, covering the use of fire extinguishers; the handling (deploying, rolling up, and connecting) of fire hoses and nozzles; the application of water jets; and navigating smoke-filled compartments while wearing respiratory protection equipment. The skills acquired are essential for conducting prolonged firefighting operations.
