The main objective is to prepare participants to carry out mechanical tasks safely and effectively during the wind turbine installation phase. The course teaches how to assemble turbine components under the supervision of an experienced technician, minimising the risk of accidents and damage to equipment.

Course description

The training focuses on the practical aspects of working on a wind farm construction site. The programme covers:

Logistics and storage: Rules for the safe storage and transport of components,
Lifting operations: Preparing components for crane work,
Assembly of main components: Pre-assembly and correct installation of tower sections, nacelles and blades,
Joining techniques: Advanced methods of tightening bolted joints (bolt tensioning/torquing),
Waste management: Handling of chemicals and consumables during assembly.

Duration

The course lasts 8 hours.

Prerequisites

Possession of a valid WINDA ID number,
At least 18 years of age,
Completion of the GWO BTT Mechanical (BTTM) module,
Completion of the GWO BTT Bolt Tightening (BTTB) module,
No medical contraindications to physical work (a declaration of physical fitness is required).

Outcomes upon completion

Able to identify hazards specific to the mechanical installation process, operate professional turbine assembly tools (including hydraulic wrenches), carry out pre- and post-assembly inspections of components, and work in accordance with technical documentation and checklists.

Certificate validity

The certificate does not expire (it is valid indefinitely). GWO recognises that once acquired, technical fundamentals remain valid unless standards change drastically.

Information about the completed training will be recorded in the international GWO WINDA database. The digital record enables authorised employers to instantly verify the holder’s qualifications. For the participant, this means easy confirmation of competence worldwide without the need for paper documents.
